Mario Russo, Chef de Cuisine

Mario Russo, Chef de Cuisine

Like many employees of The Manor family, Chef de Cuisine Mario Russo not only has a strong culinary background, but also good reason to call The Manor "family."

Chef Russo was born in Bavaria, and as with most talented chefs, he started his culinary education young, having grown up in a kitchen, working in his father's restaurant. Mario later committed to an intensive culinary school program while simultaneously working at Alpenhof, widely regarded as one of the finest restaurants in Garmisch, Germany. Chef Russo's culinary experience also includes time at the well-known Riessersee Hotel and Restaurant at the shores of the namesake emerald-green lake; a resort and fine dining destination.

Having worked closely over the years with three of The Manor's executive chefs, Mario has amassed a wealth of classic technique and technical skill while bringing his own unique background and approach, contributing to the distinctiveness and variety of The Manor's haute cuisine. Chef Russo has assisted in many of The Manor's hallmark culinary endeavors including James Beard Dinners and events for one of the oldest international food and wine organizations, the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs.

Chef Russo met his wife at The Manor, where she was also employed. The couple was married--where else?--at The Manor.

As a native of Bavaria, you might guess Chef Russo is a talented skier, but we're still impressed to know that he found time outside of the kitchen to be a (former) professional snowboarder, with top-level sponsors such as K2 and Smith. Though we must admit, we're not too surprised--if his talents and instincts for the slopes are anything like what we see from him in the kitchen.

Its splendor is solid and genuine…The Manor clearly excels…Expect a tradition of excellence whether it’s a business luncheon for 2 or 25 or a corporate event for 225.
